Abel Makkonen Tesfaye (born: February 16, 1990), better known as The Weeknd, is an Ethiopian-Canadian singer-songwriter and record producer.

- Abel is an only child.
- He uses "The Weeknd" as his onstage name because him and a group of friends left someplace for one weekend, and never came back.
- He took out the last "e" from "weekend" because there was already a band with the name "The Weekend".
- He was influenced by singers Michael Jackson, Prince and RKellyTV.
- Abel would later eventually be awarded by Prince for the "Best Soul/R&B album" award in the American Music Awards of 2015, and paid tribute to him months later at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards after winning the "Top Hot 100 Artist" award.
- From April 2015 to August 2019, Abel was in an on-again, off-again relationship with American model Bella Hadid. She starred in the music video for his single "In the Night" in December 2015. He also briefly dated American singer-actress Selena Gomez from January to October 2017. Both of the relationships received widespread media attention, and were the topic of tabloid speculation.
- His performance of "Can't Feel My Face" on the Super Bowl LV halftime show, which features him getting very close to the camera multiple amounts of times, became an internet meme.
- His hit song "Blinding Lights" is the most streamed song on Spotify, with having around 4 billion streams.
- As well as "Save Your Tears", his hit songs has been the back-to-back theme songs for WWE WrestleMania 36 and 37.
- He founded a record label named XO.
- He appears at the Marvel Comics panel at the 2017 San Diego Comic Con.
- In 2022, Abel lost his voice once when performing at a concert[1] which is then called back by his short song, I Can't Fucking Sing, from Hurry Up Tomorrow.
