Patrick Lacey, better known online as TierZoo, is an American YouTuber who focuses on ranking animals in tier lists and commenting on the natural world as if it were a video game.

The style used by Lacey within the channel is based on Outside, a reddit group that discusses real life as if it were a video game. Commentary on the videos of the channel generally regards them as effective educational tools due to their focus on interspersing comedy within factual commentary, most of which he has learned from college,[1] as he studied microbiology and numerous other biology topics. His style of commentary has been regarded as especially effective in attracting gamers to his videos, as he uses gaming terminology within them.

The web show seeks to analyze the meta (Earth) to determine the best current builds (species). He talks about the special abilities and build strats of various prominent animal classes and show people things they may have overlooked when specing their character. But actually his goal is to get gamers interested in zoology, since there's a ton of amazing aspects of life on Earth that go underappreciated. Evolution has produced some bizarre traits, strategies, and life cycles that he feels need to be given the spotlight once in a while. His uploads are inconsistent, and normally take many months.

Collaborations[]

His first collaboration was with the channel Casually Explained, which made sense as TierZoo attributes the inspiration for his channel to be one of Casually Explained's videos "Evolution II: The Tier List". TierZoo has also collaborated with the channels Real Life Lore, Vsauce3, Extra Credits, Screenplay, MockRock, Life Noggin, DidYouKnowGaming, Alpharad, and Legal Eagle.

TierZoo has also had cameo appearances on several other channels, including PBS Eons, Schafrillas Productions, Lessons from the Screenplay, ZeRo, Knowing Better, Technicality, mossbag, PolyMatter, Genetically Modified Skeptic[2] and Tom Carroll.[3] TierZoo has appeared on several podcasts, including The Official Podcast (penguin0 et al), Partycast (Alpharad et al), and No Dumb Questions (SmarterEveryDay and Matt Whittman).
