Timothy Daniel Pool (born March 9, 1986VICE journalist and political commentary YouTuber. Tim hosts the podcast Timcast IRL, which is the most popular political podcast on YouTube.
) is an American secondary source reporter, podcast host, former prominentContent[]
Tim rose to fame while reporting the Occupy Wall Street protests, live-streaming them and allowing his viewers to direct him where to report. He used an aerial drone to film and survey them, and his video became vital in the case of the NYPD arresting photographer Alexander Arbuckle. In 2013, he became a journalist for VICE[1] before he decided to become independent in 2017. Since his independence, he has launched three channels that cover news, current events, his political commentary as well as his podcasts, debates and other politics related things.
Political Views[]
Tim has described himself as a social liberal. Even though his former VICE employer has called him a progressive, his views on social media censorship and immigration align with the right-wing, though his anti-corporate views are fairly left-wing. Pool rejects the labels of left-wing and right-wing, and would rather categorize the public as 1) those who are "discerning" and "skeptical regarding legacy media" and 2) those who are "undiscerning" and "uninitiated".
He supported Bernie Sanders in the 2016 election and Donald Trump in the 2020 election.
Channels[]
Tim Pool[]
Tim's first channel, Tim Pool, was made in 2011, which was dedicated to filming events that were making the news[2]. He documented the brutality he faced at the hands of the police[3]. He also shone a light on his remote controlled device which he spliced around from random parts, "Canbot"[4], a green tea can that flies around and livestreams important events. While the quality was low, Canbot's contribution was essential in the Occupy Wall Street protests, and viewers of Pool during that period remember him fondly and call him a hero.
Tim also interviewed people like 2016 election candidate Vermin Supreme[5], wrestler Barret Brown[6] and Wikileaks member Clark[7]. Even though he is primarily an American journalist he has also filmed in Spain[8], Canada[9], Brazil[10] and Sweden[11]. His most popular video is about the No-Go Zones in Malmo, Sweden, due to the rise of rape statistics after the influx of Muslim refugees from Syria. Also a technology channel, he is vocal about how your data is tracked online[12] and how hackers can take control of your devices[13].
As of 2015, the Tim Pool channel has shifted towards political commentary on current events and political news.
Timcast[]
Timcast is Tim's second channel launched in 2015. In a trailer called "Welcome to Channel Two"[14], he revealed that the channel would be more laid back and would regard skateboarding, music, technology and gaming, as well as other topics that would not fit his main channel. This channel has the most videos, sitting at over 4K+, and has over 1 million subscribers.
Timcast IRL[]
Timcast IRL is dedicated to livestreams and debates. Originally it was for his vlogging purposes. This show has hosted the people from all over the political spectrum. His podcast runs from Monday-Friday every night, and is co-hosted by Luke Rudkowski, Ian Crossland and formerly Adam Crigler. It is produced by Lydia Smith. His podcast episode with Alex Jones was deleted by Youtube, as well as another livestream interviewing Project Veritas founder James O' Keefe, for having his name in the title.
Personal life[]
He grew up on the Chicago South Side. At the age 14, he dropped out of school. He resides in Chicago, Illinois. He has one brother.
His mother is a teacher and has her own Youtube channel.[15]
Tim is of British, Irish, French, Korean and Japanese descent[16][17][18]. His Asian side is from his mother and his Caucasian side is from his father.
Controversy[]
Sweden’s ‘No-Go’ Zones[]
On February 25, 2017, Tim visited Sweden to report on No-Go Zones as part of a contest started by Paul Joseph Watson to document such a phenomenon going on. While he made the report Tim was nearly attacked by several residences of these no-go zones and was also seen in a photo with several right-wing personalities such as Brittany Sellner, Vince James and James Allsup, which caused some controversy online due to Tim’s self proclaimed left wing politics.[19]
Millennial Matt[]
In late 2017, Tim was reporting on the ground on Charlottesville regarding the situation between right wing demonstrators and left wing anarchists. During his presence there, Millennial Matt tweeted out that he will take off Tim Pool’s beanie. Tim responded claiming if Matt was serious but Matt did not respond. Matt would subsequently take off Tim’s beanie, causing TIm Pool to lash out angrily at Matt and threatening to “knock his teeth out” and inflict physical harm on Matt for the prank he did.[20]
GorillaGate
In September 2020, Tim attempted to create some merchandise for his Timcast IRL podcast featuring a Gorilla. However the designer of the T Shirt messed up the design of the Gorilla, resulting in some ‘woke’ leftists calling out the design of the gorilla and the racial design of the t shirt. Tim would later address this controversy in a subsequent podcast episode and quickly revised the shirts.[21]
Subverse Attempted Lawsuit
In late 2020-early 2021, a crowdfunded indie erotic video game was being developed for Microsoft Windows by game developed FOW Interactive, a developer of pornographic video games. However, because the name of their video game was the same as Tim Pool’s news network, Pool attempted to sue the company on the grounds of utilizing his intellectual property. In response to this attempted lawsuit, FOW created a crab-like character named “Dim Fool”, a crab who wears a beanie to mock Tim Pool. Subsequently, Dim Fool has become a meme by leftists due to this event.[22]
Poor Treatment of Guests/Cynical Attitude[]
After the 2020 election, many users noted that Tim Pool’s content has become more sensationalist and less about focusing on the news. This especially became present in 2021, where many users noted that Tim Pool would talk over his guests on Timcast IRL, report on filler content such as the UFO hoaxes but also express hypocritical positions such as calling people ‘spineless’ and cowardly for not moving out of the cities (despite the fact that many people aren’t in the privileged position as Tim). Many users noted Tim’s particular poor treatment of cohosts such as Ian Crossland and to a lesser extent Lydia Smith as well as his more cynical attitude and negativity starting in 2021. Most of his skeptical viewers point out Tim's refusal to be wrong, going so far as trying to salvage that he has something correct when reaching on topics that he's completely incorrect.[23]
Adam Crigler[]
During the COVID lockdowns, Crigler wanted to expand his knowledge as he doesn't want to be told that he is in the wrong without able to back up himself. The result was his changed stance on abortion. Lydia's grandiose pro-choice statements on Twitter only deteriorated his relation with Crigler even further. On his last appearance, abortion was a heated topic at the time, Crigler was angry at Lydia. The next day, Tim sent a message where Crigler was in the wrong for snapping on her, despite Tim himself belittling and shouting her multiple times. Crigler wanted a new producer, but his messages was interpreted as ultimatums as "either Adam or Lydia". Tim then contacted Joe Rogan about this "ultimatum", which the latter recommending Tim to fire Adam. At the day of the firing, Tim treated his 7 year friendship with Adam as no value of him. However, Adam pleaded to Tim that this podcast is larger than the two of them and that it can just be two friends poking fun at eachother, similar to Moistcr1tikal's Official podcast.[24]
Andy Ngo[]
Tim would continue to double and triple down on his tweets on June 3rd, 2021. Tim would later upload a video on his Timcast channel regarding the Andy Ngo situation as well as a short livestream on his Instagram, of which Tim victim bashes Andy and states that Andy was foolish to go to an Antifa flash mob and how he is always right. Tim would tweet more on June 3rd as well, with his most controversial tweet being “If you think this account is designed to pander to you guys then you are in for a big surprise”. Many critics of Tim use this tweet and accuse Pool of possibly being a grifter.[25]
RA the Rugged Man[]
On Mid-December 2021, Tim held an exclusive show on Timcast.com with rapper RA the Rugged Man. Both men had a heated conversation, notably RA disregards Tim's heritage by stating "your life wasn't that bad. you look like a white boy." and Tim infuritiating him by calling him "that guy". RA then began swearing, and got up slapping the mic and swearing at Tim while Tim tried to calm him down. RA later apologised and the two made up after the show.[26]
