Tumblr, stylized as tumblr, is the official YouTube channel of the American microblogging website founded in February 2007 by David Karp of the same name.
History[]
Tumblr's development began in 2006 during a gap between contracts at Karp's software consulting company, Davidville. He was interested in "tumblelogs", which are short blogs. For some time, he was waiting for one of the established blogging platforms to introduce their own tumblelogging platform, but none had done so after a year of waiting, so Karp and developer Marco Arment began working on their own platform. The platform, or Tumblr, was launched in 2007.
In 2013, Yahoo and Tumblr reached an agreement for Yahoo! Inc. to acquire Tumblr for $1.1 billion. Many users of Tumblr were unhappy with the news, causing some to make a petition which reached over 170,000 signatures. The deal was then finalized on June 20, 2013, and Karp remained as CEO. Verizon Communications acquired Yahoo in June 2017, and placed Yahoo and Tumblr under its Oath subsidiary. In November 2017, Karp announced he would be leaving Tumblr by the end of the year.
In 2019, Verizon Communications announced it would sell Tumblr to Automatic, the operator of WordPress.com. It was reported that the price was less than $3 million.
Channel[]
The channel was created on June 28, 2018, and the first video was uploaded on April 26, 2019. The channel uploads videos which feature prominent Tumblr users in which they do an interview or partake in challenges.
