Personal life[]
Tyler was born on March 6, 1991, in Hawthorne, California.[4] He is of Igbo ancestry from his Nigerian father, who he never met. His mother is a mixed African-American who also has white Canadian descent.[5][6][7] Tyler is bisexual,[8] and in 2017, he came out stating that he has been in relationships with boys since he was 13 in 2004.[9] He has been in a relationship with model Reign Judge since 2021.[10][11]
Career[]
In 2007, Tyler formed Odd Future, along with a few members.[12] Later, in 2009, he released his debut mixtape, Bastard.[13] However, due to the lyrics, he was banned from the United Kingdom and Australia for 3-5 years, until the ban was lifted in 2019.[14][15] Later, in 2011, he released his first studio album, Goblin.[16]
History[]
He originally started on his old channel, named "bloxhead", being created on June 25, 2006, and started uploading on February 28, 2008.[17] However, he stopped uploading on October 24, 2009.[18] In 2022, the channel reached 100,000 subscribers.[19]
His channel was created on October 1, 2016, and began uploading on June 29, 2017. The first video was the music video of Who Dat Boy, a song in his album, Flower Boy.[20] On June 30, 2017, a day after uploading his first video, he reached 100,000 subscribers.[21] On August 10, 2018, he reached one million subscribers.[21]
Controversy[]
From 2010 to 2011, Tyler made a series of sexual comments directed towards Selena Gomez over Twitter.[22][23] In a 2013 interview he stated that he and Selena were not on good terms explaining, "We don't really get along. She don't like me. We don't like each other. Because I'm kicking it with Justin Bieber — like that's my homeboy. She always be mean muggin' me. Like why are you hating on me?".[24] In 2021, he made the public apology in his song Manifesto in his studio album Call Me If You Get Lost.[25][26]
Tyler Aquilina of Entertainment Weekly wrote of the controversy, "Tyler was known as a provocateur at that point in his career, and was frequently criticized for what many observers called homophobic and misogynistic lyrics, including depictions of violence against women".[27]
