Łukasz Piskorz[citation needed], better known online as vanripper or vanripperart, is a Polish[citation needed] artist, Flash animator and game developer. He is best known for being the creator of the indie puzzle-adventure game Helltaker.[citation needed]

History[]

YouTube[]

Łukasz created his YouTube channel on May 7, 2008. It was originally dedicated to fan animations and fanart of games he liked, such as Skyrim[1][2] and Persona 5[3].

He also had his own original series called Daystone[4], about a cat named Red Hunter Kocia who searched the world for magic gems[5], which lasted for three episodes. Łukasz has stated that the series was inspired by his work on previous projects such as Immortal Planet and RONIN[6].

On May 11, 2020, Łukasz uploaded the first video related to his Helltaker project, consisting of an advertisement for the game's release on Steam. Though Helltaker could be downloaded for free, he also announced a digital artbook for sale alongside it, which included concept sketches and a pancake recipe referencing the game's ending.[7]

He also hosted live streams though they are unlisted, they can be viewed here[8].

Game development career[]

Helltaker[]

Łukasz is known for being the indie game developer behind Helltaker, which was released in May 2020 for Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Linux. It is described as "a short game about sharply dressed demon girls". [citation needed]

The plot follows a man named the Helltaker, who has a dream in which he acquires a harem of demon girls, most of which wear business attire. Waking up, he decides to journey down into Hell to make his dream come true. After completing each of their respective puzzles using as few moves as possible, he entices the girls to join his harem through picking a correct dialogue option. Although it is stated his time with them will be short and painful, he decides that he still enjoys it. The final boss of the game is a demon girl named Lucifer, the CEO of Hell. The game was developed by Łukasz in the span of one year.[citation needed]

Upon release, Helltaker was met with widespread acclaim for its striking hand-drawn visuals, animation, and soundtrack composed by the online Flash animator Mittsies. Despite being a relatively small and short experience, it received a cult following and a plethora of fanart throughout the 2020s. The game was popular enough for merchandising opportunities. Łukasz collaborated with the Japanese hobby manufacturer Good Smile Company to produce figurines of Helltaker's demon girls, such as Nendoroids of Modeus and Cerberus, and a Pop Up Parade figurine of Lucifer.[citation needed]

Łukasz also created Helltaker webcomics posted to his Twitter/X account, which he states are canon to the game's storyline.

Trivia[]

  • Łukasz did the character art and animation for Tomasz Wacławek's game RONIN[citation needed]
