World Wrestling Entertainment, commonly referred to by its acronym trade name, WWE, is an American professional wrestling promotion and entertainment company. It is owned and operated by TKO Group Holdings, a majority-owned subsidiary of Endeavor Group Holdings. A global integrated media and entertainment company, WWE has also branched out into fields outside of wrestling, including film, football, and various other business ventures. The company is additionally involved in licensing its intellectual property to other companies to produce video games and action figures.

WWE was founded by Jess McMahon and Toots Mondt in 1953 as the Capitol Wrestling Corporation (CWC), a Northeastern territory of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA). As of 2024, WWE is the largest professional wrestling promotion in the world, holding over 500 events a year (with the wellness policy enforced roster divided up into various globally traveling brands), and broadcasting to about 36 million viewers in more than 150 countries. Many have seen WWE as the ruler of the professional wrestling/sports entertainment monopoly.

The company's majority owners are its chairman and CEO, Nick Khan, along with head of creative, Paul "Triple H" Levesque. Vince McMahon was the former CEO and chairman from 1982 to 2022, then a former executive chairman from 2023 to 2024.

Vince retired in 2022 due to a scandal arising from him using company funds to cover up affairs he had with female ex-employees. However, he returned as executive chairman in the January of 2023.

In September 2023, WWE and UFC formed a joint company titled TKO under Endeavor. Vince served as executive chairman of the newly formed company. He later resigned from TKO in January 2024 after allegations of sex trafficking and sexual assault.[1][2]

In March of 2024, WWE became the very first American professional sports channel to hit 100 million subscribers and became the 10th channel in history to hit 100 million subscribers.

About[]

Although WWE first joined YouTube on May 11, 2007, the company's first video wasn't posted until nearly a year later.

WWE, formerly WWEFanNation, is currently the 6th most subscribed and the most subscribed Sports channel on YouTube with over 100 million subscribers. It has received YouTube's Silver, Gold, and Diamond Play Buttons.

In mid-2015, WWE's YouTube channel surpassed NBA's YouTube channel as being the most subscribed and viewed Sports YouTube channel. In October 2016, Dude Perfect’s YouTube channel surpassed WWE's as the most subscribed Sports channel on YouTube. WWE is still the most viewed Sports YouTube channel. In August 2018, WWE became one of the Top 10 Most-subscribed YouTube channels by surpassing Katy Perry in subscribers. On November 15, 2018, WWE's YouTube channel surpassed Dude Perfect's YouTube channel in subscribers and is now the most subscribed Sports YouTube channel once again.

Aside from subscribers on YouTube, WWE also ranks as the 9th most viewed channel on YouTube with over 82.1 billion total views.[3] It’s also the second most viewed non-Indian channel.

With over 74,300 videos, thousands of playlists to categorize them, and a multiple videos a day schedule operated by WWE's social media team, the channel also ranks as one of the most abundant in videos and video schedules on YouTube.

The channel's videos generally consist of television, internet, or WWE Network / Peacock content of or sometimes relating to WWE, and YouTube exclusive original content of or relating to WWE. Often, one of WWE's YouTube videos make it on the site's trending page. WWE frequently updates their playlists and put the newest and most relevant playlists first out of the list of them on YouTube. WWE also updates their channel banner to the newest and most relevant occasion going on with either it's YouTube channel or the company itself, usually the latter. There are also videos of full-length matches on their channel, such as John Cena vs The Rock at WrestleMania 28, and Rey Mysterio vs Eddie Guerrero at SummerSlam 2005.

During Vince McMahon's control, WWE barely ever talks about or makes references to other companies due to not wanting to promote their competition. For example, a promo done by Sami Zayn in 2019 had to be edited out due to Sami mentioning All Elite Wrestling, or AEW. In these rare occasions, they do manage to do so, whether it's to mock them without namedropping them or if they were granted permission to use their likeliness, like New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW), Total Nonstop Action/Impact Wrestling (TNA/Impact), and even Ring of Honor (ROH). They would also promote a bunch of independent wrestling promotions due to working out a partnered contract, like EVOLVE, wXw, ICW, and many more. In recent times, however, they began to welcome these promotions with open partnerships, starting most notably at the 2024 Royal Rumble, where then-TNA Knockouts World Champion Jordynne Grace appeared at the event. This would later give way to other TNA wrestlers like Joe Hendry and Frankie Kazarian appearing on NXT, with wrestlers of that brand returning the favor by appearing frequently on TNA events.

WWE's YouTube channel ranks as the second most active social media account owned by WWE behind its Facebook account. It is also the most subscribed Sports channel on YouTube.

WWE hosts at least 12 Premium Live Events (formerly known as pay-per-view [PPV] events) annually. WrestleMania is known as their flagship event and one of the Big Five, followed by Money In The Bank, SummerSlam, Survivor Series, and Royal Rumble.
