Walt Disney Imagineering Research & Development, Inc.[2] is a company known for the research and development of worldwide Disney attractions and theme parks. It is a subsidiary of Disney Experiences, a division of The Walt Disney Company.[3]

Origins[]

Walt Disney founded Walt Disney Imagineering (as Walt Disney Inc.) in December 1952 after plans were revealed in March of that year to build what would become Disneyland. Walt Disney Inc. was renamed WED Enterprises in 1953. WED oversaw the creation of Disneyland, which was opened on July 17, 1955. The company is renamed again in 1986 to the current name, Walt Disney Imagineering.[4]

Content[]

After a brief focus on the attraction "Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge", Imagineering shifted its focus to a series of "Imagineering In a Box"[5] videos, which is an online Khan Academy course in which Disney Imagineers share their aspects on theme park design and engineering.[6] Later, developments, sneak peeks, behind-the-scenes, and other videos related to Imagineering's attractions and designs were posted.

Trivia[]

  • The term "imagineering" is a registered trademark by Disney.[7]
    • It's also a blend of the words imagination and engineering.[8]
  • Workers at Walt Disney Imagineering are referred to as "Imagineers".[9]
