Wave is a genre of pop-oriented rock music most popular in North America and Southern Asia. The height of the music's popularity was during the late 1970s and the 1980s with similarities to mid-1970s punk rock. Wave music changed style from blues and rock sounds to create rock music or pop music. This new change incorporated many different styles of music such as funk, and electro. Originally, wave started more closely related to punk rock, before becoming a genre of its own. As a result of these changes, wave grew subgenres and fusions, including synth-pop.
