Blitzgate was an incident that occurred on May 26, 2021, when administrator BadBlitz808 had found discussions moderator Aparrently's password to his Fandom account, and posted it in a public channel on Wikitubia's Discord server.

Background[]

BadBlitz808 is a former administrator on Wikitubia, who first joined Wikitubia on August 7, 2020,[1] and became a rollbacker on September 17, 2020. He had quickly elevated up the staff ranks and on February 27, 2021 he became an administrator.[2] Throughout the entirety of his time on Wikitubia, he had amassed over 20,000 edits.

BadBlitz808 had a history of leaking and posting, or "border-line doxxing" of personal information about other Wikitubia users prior to Blitzgate on Wikitubia's Discord; a notable example of this was in January of 2021, when he found and leaked rollbacker Tylerota2's personal information, causing him to abruptly retire because to it. At the time, BadBlitz808 doing this was not negatively viewed upon. Most of BadBlitz808's doxxing usually consisted of information that would be relatively easy-to-find, although sensitive, information. This behavior was usually pushed off and was rarely adequately addressed. BadBlitz808 also had a tendency to purge mass amounts of messages on Wikitubia's Discord server, with the reason often varying.

Blitzgate[]

On May 26, 2021, BadBlitz808 would post Aparrently's Fandom password, as well as handful of other sensitive information, in Wikitubia's Discord server's #main channel. Most at first were reluctant to believe that it was actually Aparrently's password (who at the time, was not online, as he was taking a science exam), however, the user Dumblsnape would successfully log in to Aparrently's Fandom account and would post a message on content moderator JakCooperThePlumber's message wall, proving that he had logged into his account.[3]

The initial reaction of the staff was to remove BadBlitz808's status as Discord server moderator. However, there was a push for more action by many staff members, such as demoting and banning BadBlitz808. Seeing this, BadBlitz808 made a claim that many believe was false, that he was "being threatened by someone with a Geometry Dash profile picture", presumably from the aforementioned game's community (a community that Aparrently was rarely active in at the time) to send Aparrently's private information or else they would dox BadBlitz808's private information." However, not many believed this leading to BadBlitz808 stopping the use of the claim.

Administrator Cluckster and a few other staff members would bring this situation to the attention of the Wiki Representative Spongebob456, who would state "Hey! Thanks for letting me know! On my end - as this happened on Discord - this is mainly a Discord issue in terms of the doxxing. On a local level, clearly that isn't good behaviour from what you've told me and you could demote if you wanted to.", which would mean that BadBlitz808 would receive no global ban for this. This situation was also brought to the attention of the Bureaucrats Purzyckij and NameOfUser57, but they seemed uninterested and did not punish BadBlitz808. After a few days, many users would stop discussing it and the situation would die down. BadBlitz808 would go on to purge all conversations related to Blitzgate during this time.

Aftermath[]

BadBlitz808 would largely have no punishments for the remainder of his time on the wiki, but he lost much of his credibility, although he would stop his doxx-like behavior and would eventually apologize to Aparrently for the incident.

On October 30, 2021, the incident would briefly be brought up again in the #wiki-reports channel, in response to which BadBlitz808 would make the following statement:

I turned to doing shitty crazy stuff back in quarantine because I was really frustrated/anxious/seeking attention, and it's still totally my fault for creeping you guys out—I can't go back in time and reverse that, unfortunately. (That was also when I spent too much time on the wiki.) Now that I have school/friends (aka a life) I don't f around with that stuff anymore. I just talk here and help when help is needed.

―BadBlitz808

Afterwards, BadBlitz808 would gradually begin to get less active, and on February 8, 2022, BadBlitz808 would make his last edit,[4] and on February 10, 2022, he would delete his Discord account. On April 9, 2022, BadBlitz808 would be demoted due to inactivity.[5]

After BadBlitz808 had departed from Wikitubia, discussions of banning him began to happen. On May 12, 2022, there began a vote amongst Wikitubia Staff whether BadBlitz808 should be banned or not. With a result of 14-1 (14 being for banning him, and 1 being against), he was blocked on the wiki on May 12, 2022 for an indefinite amount of time on grounds of doxxing.[6]
