Joelle Joanie "JoJo" Siwa (born: May 19, 2003 (2003-05-19) [age 22]) is an American YouTuber, artist, dancer, model, actress, and internet personality.

Her channel opened in 2015 with the name Its JoJo Siwa uploading her first video under the title BABY JOJO!! MY FIRST SOLO showing a video recorded from the 2000’s dancing on stage. Shortly after, JoJo started uploading more videos including vlogs, slime tutorials, merchandise reviews, and official music videos to her songs. By 2016 her channel had hit more than 200,000 subscribers and 12,000,000 views.[1]

She is formerly known for being on the cable television network Nickelodeon appearing in various studio albums, television shows, movies, and video games. She would even appear frequently on Nickelodeon’s official YouTube channel with other Nick stars and celebrities.

Sometime in early 2022, she stopped working with Nickelodeon to pursue her music career more independently. In mid 2022, JoJo Siwa’s original channel became XOMG Pop! and several of her videos were privated. Only 84 of JoJo Siwa’s original videos are still publicly available on her channel. As JoJo was no longer making songs solely to the same demographic, videos on the channel began to show content from the band she created of the same name consistently featuring a group of children performing music to a younger demographic.

On November 2023, JoJo Siwa had moved to a new channel under her name where her own content would then take place. Here she didn’t start uploading until April 2024 producing content targeted towards adults, the first video on this channel being a teaser for her song and music video "Karma".

About[]

On September 22, 2018, JoJo got her own animated web series by Nickelodeon and Renegade Animation titled The JoJo and BowBow Show Show. The series was made in appreciation of her popular teacup yorkie BowBow. It ran for one year on Nickelodeon’s YouTube channel (as well as Nick Jr.’s YouTube channel) with 2 seasons consisting of 12 episodes total.

On September 3, 2021, Nickelodeon released an official JoJo Siwa movie titled The J Team. The film starred JoJo Siwa as a 14 year old fictional version of herself in a plot where she gets kicked out of her dance team when her original coach retires. The film would be her last major project with Nickelodeon. Being a Paramount+ original, it had eventually been removed from the streaming service, reasons unknown.

On April 2024, JoJo Siwa would no longer brand for children as she moved to a different channel and started releasing more adult-oriented content most notably with her song “Karma”.

James Charles on Twitter later wrote " "Can someone please explain why da baby is dissing jojo siwa when she’s 12 years younger, 10 times richer, and 2 inches taller than him" which Dababy responded "I love twitter 😂 😂 😂 😂 " and said "@itsjojosiwa my 3 year old princess is your number 1 fan. I bought her every product you have out. She think she you," he wrote. "Don’t let em trick you into thinking I’d ever have a problem with you. My word play just went over their heads. All love on my end shawty, Keep shinning!" which Dababy apologized about the controversy and DaBaby is actually using her name in a play on words to call his foes weak—"Siwa" is a homophone of “see why.” JoJo is also a nickname for DaBaby, whose real name is Jonathan Kirk, so the line can be read as “Jonathan see why." which was his wordplay. JoJo Siwa never responded.[4]

I know Colleen very, very, very well, and I think the work that Colleen has done for the internet is incredible. I think her creativity is incredible. Miranda Sings is a character, is a comedian. And I think that it’s very hard to be a character where people are also looking at you as a real human behind that character. She’s cool, you know? And the problem is, I think the internet was able to capitalize off of her cancellation, and they still are… and it’s not okay, because a lot of it is based off of lies. And it hurts me to see."[9]

"Karma" plagiarism allegations[]

Jojo had sparked outrage after her rebranding, especially with her song "Karma", in which she was accused of plagiarizing the song from the original 2012 demo version which was initially sung by Brit Smith and originally was meant for Miley Cyrus. Jojo denied the allegations that her song was plagiarized, and claimed that she was unaware of Brit Smith's existence.
