Zelenskyy President (Зе!Президент in Ukrainian) is the unofficial YouTube channel of former comedian and 6th and current President of Ukraine Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelenskyy (born: January 25, 1978 (1978-01-25) [age 46]). It is not run by him, but his team.

Content[]

The channel is dedicated to vlogs and livestreams told from Zelenskyy's view.

Personal life[]

He was born in Kryvyy Rih, Southern Ukraine whilst it was still part of the Soviet Union, to a mining scientist and mathematician, Oleksandr Zelenskyy, and his wife, Rymma Zelenska, an engineer. He is of Jewish descent, and his great-grandparents were killed in the Holocaust. His first language is Russian, though he can also speak English and Ukrainian fluently.

He has a degree in law, but at age 17, he decided to become an actor/comedian, often portraying humorous roles. In 2015, he played the role of the President of Ukraine in the show Servant of the People. In 2019, he was actually elected the President of Ukraine[1] despite having no prior political experience[2].

In September 2003, Zelenskyy married his wife Olena Kiyashko, an architect. They had known each other since their school days. Their first child, a girl named Oleksandra, was born in July 2004. In January 2013 they would have a son, Kyrylo.

Political views[]

His political party, Servant of the People, is liberal and populist, though members of it have described themselves as "libertarian" and "centrist". During his campaign, Zelenskyy vowed to end the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, change the Ukrainian judicial system and have Ukraine join the EU and NATO. He has also expressed support for legalising marijuana (for medical purposes), legalising abortion, legalising prostitution and gambling and the decommunization of Ukraine.

Russo-Ukrainian war[]

Zelenskyy opposed the Russian invasion of Donbas in 2014.

In February 2022, when Putin ordered the invasion of Russia, Zelensky decided to stay with his men and fight, and he received international support from most countries whereas Putin was condemned. He was also lauded for visiting wounded Ukrainian fighters in the hospital. He would receive a knighthood from the UK for his work[3].

Zelenskyy repeatedly begged Putin for talks, and also called for Russia to be removed from seats where it held power.

Quotes[]

  • (to Joe Biden) "I need ammunition, not a ride."
  • (to the Russian troops) "If you surrender to our forces, we will treat you the way people are supposed to be treated — as people, decently."[4]
  • (to Vladimir Putin) "Meet me, I don't bite."[5]

Trivia[]
